Verify source
Download only from the official CPUID website or reputable mirrors (e.g. Softonic, Guru3D, TechSpot). Avoid unknown or repacked sources.
Checksums & signatures
Check the file’s digital signature (right-click → Properties) and, if CPUID publishes a hash (SHA256/SHA1), verify it with a checksum tool (e.g. PowerShell Get-FileHash). We do not publish hashes here—use the vendor’s current values.
Antivirus false positives — checklist
- ✓ Download from official vendor or reputable mirrors only
- ✓ Verify file (signature or hash) when the vendor provides it
- ✓ Optionally scan with multiple engines (e.g. VirusTotal); a single heuristic on the official build is common
- ✓ Avoid unofficial repacks or “cracked” versions
See Guides and Trust & Security for more.
Technical Reference
HWMonitor does not modify the registry for sensor reading. The installer (Setup) may add uninstall entries so the app appears in Windows Add/Remove Programs; the portable (ZIP) version does not write to the registry. Below are useful commands and registry locations for verification and troubleshooting.
Verify download hash (PowerShell)
Run in PowerShell after downloading. Replace C:\Path\To\hwmonitor_1.62.exe with your file path. Compare the hash with the value published by CPUID if available.
Get-FileHash -Path "C:\Path\To\hwmonitor_1.62.exe" -Algorithm SHA256
Uninstall registry key (installer only)
The Setup version may create an entry under Windows’ Uninstall key. Use this only to verify install location or uninstall data; do not edit unless you know what you’re doing.
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Uninstall\*HWMonitor*
Open Uninstall dialog (Run command)
Quick way to open Add or Remove Programs so you can uninstall HWMonitor (Setup version).
appwiz.cpl
